CMUC member Luís Nunes Vicente, with co-recipients Andrew R. Conn (IBM Research) and Katya Scheinberg (University of Lehigh), has been awarded the Lagrange Prize in Continuous Optimization. The prize, established in 2002, is awarded jointly by the Mathematical Optimization Society (MOS) and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). The prize is awarded for outstanding works in the area of continuous optimization. Nunes Vicente, Conn and Scheinberg received their award at the opening ceremony of the 22nd International Symposium on Mathematical Programming on July 12th in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) for their book "Introduction to Derivative-Free Optimization", published in 2009.
